The Miracle Behind Our Front And Backyard Makeover

I’m not sure if you all saw my instagram stories recently about our backyard makeover. But, basically we kinda experienced a God miracle. Let me back up and explain.

So, it all started when I began praying something a little wild.

You see...I stumbled across a lot of verses as I was praying for and preparing for delivering our son. Verses like:

If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Mathew 7:11

Or

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Matthew 7:7-8

And like 10 other ones that all the sudden clicked in my mind.

Now, I’m no bible scholar, but on a very basic level I believe God loves me, I believe he has the best for me, he wants to bless me, take care of me, and he feels more love for me than I do even for my own children ( and to be totally honest, I just started realizing God loved me...I know...that’s crazy but true).

So, when I read the above verses, a strange shift kinda happened in me. Kinda like when declarations and adorations collide into a prayer. And I started praying different. Instead of looking around at all I didn’t have and praying “oh God please somehow work a miracle” I would say “Thank you God that we are already living in abundance. Thank you for the miracles that are unfolding”. And, sure enough it shifted my heart.

So I got a little wild and I made a list. Yes, oh so wild. And I titled it “All By Faith”. Because, really 100% of the items on the list are basically like….Goliaths and I cannot do these things on my own.

Because, faith is believing without seeing, right?

So, here was my list (I’m being real guys, so no judgements, okay? Haha)

  1. Absolutely perfect delivery of my son, no complications at all.

  2. To get completely out of debt by the end of the year. Ability to give without measure

  3. Traveling with my family

  4. Home improvements - beautiful front and backyard

  5. That God would do something amazing with Growth Roots

I know, the list wasn’t epic but it was a start, and so I started thanking God for all of that. I even started saying thank you for the GRASS! “Thank you God for the beautiful grass that will be in our backyard soon”.

And, I really can’t tell you exactly what happened other than God did a crazy miracle! We ended up getting a major front and backyard overhaul with grass like two weeks after I started praying. I still look out at it and want to tear up because it truly was such a shock and blessing to us.

So, I know grass isn’t thaaaaatttt important, in the big scheme of things. And, I know there are probably much better things I could pray for, and this isn't a post about praying a certain way to get stuff, or to get God to do things. But, this all made me realize something. I think I - and maybe can I dare to say - we? We forget that God cares about it all. The big and little desires of our heart, the silly things, the things that don’t matter, and the things that matter the most. So why not pray about it all and declare as if we've already received the desires of our heart?

He is waiting for us to come to Him with the belief that he is a perfect father (despite what our earthly fathers may have shown us), and a father that would do anything for us. And quite honestly, I don’t go to Him like that as much as I should.

So, I guess you guys know the rest is history. If you saw my instagram stories (and maybe some of you didn’t) but truly out of nowhere my husbands family offered to pay for a gardener for monthly cleanup of the weeds. And somehow it turned into a complete overhaul of the front and backyard...and grass! And this was without hinting to them that we wanted it, it wasn’t like we mentioned it a million times before...it literally happened out of nowhere.

So, the point of this story is this…

It’s not about the stuff. It’s not about how much we can ask God for. It’s about believing, truly believing in your heart that not only is God capable of anything, but he cares about EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of your life big or small. And, regardless if you see the fruit of what you prayed for or not immediately, or a year from your prayer, or 10 years from when you first prayed, it’s about believing that he loves you enough to give you grass, give you a baby, heal your friend of an illness, provide for you financially, or whatever that might look like in your life. There is NOTHING too big for God, and no part of our lives or hearts that he doesn’t care about.

And in all honesty I’m really writing this post as a reminder for myself too. Because, I’m believing for some big miracles, and I tend to forget to have the mindset that God loves me enough to do those big things too.

Let’s not get stuck on the “how is God going to do that?”, and remember God operates outiside space, time, and resources. He has it all, and can freely give it all and do it all. Let’s hold on to that. Declaring his goodness over our life can change everything.
